Case Study 39 - Metal Building Renovation, Refinishing Salt Water Oxidized Metal

Condition:  The oxidized metal window frames, bleached metal sliding doors and sun faded metal balcony railings on this South Florida oceanfront hotel are continually exposed to the sun, UV rays, humidity, heat, salt water mist and corrosive salt air. In this damaging and caustic environment the clear natural colored metal finishes had weathered, oxidized, pitted and stained. The original gloss and silver color of the metal anodic finish had faded, bleached and was damaged by salt in the environment. The new hotel owners saw the results of not washing, caring for or maintaining the metal window mullions and frames, anodized aluminum sliding glass doors and metal railings.
